BioActive History

The BioActive conference series is dedicated to research on bioactive compounds of natural origin, their chemical structure, biological activity, and practical applications in medicine, biotechnology, agriculture, and the food industry.

Bioactive compounds derived from natural sources such as plants, microorganisms, algae, and fungi play a key role in modern science and industry. These substances are widely studied for their antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and therapeutic properties, as well as for their potential use in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, nutraceuticals, and functional foods.

The BioActive conference series was created to provide a platform for scientists working in natural product chemistry, bioorganic chemistry, biotechnology, analytical chemistry, pharmacology, and related disciplines. The meetings promote interdisciplinary collaboration and allow researchers to exchange ideas, present new discoveries, and discuss emerging trends in the study of biologically active molecules.

A distinctive element of the BioActive conference series is its close connection with the scientific achievements of Professor Czesław Wawrzeńczyk, whose work has significantly contributed to the development of research on natural bioactive compounds.

Prof. Czesław Wawrzeńczyk

Professor Czesław Wawrzeńczyk is a Polish chemist specializing in bioorganic chemistry and natural product chemistry. For many years he has been associated with the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences, where he contributed significantly to the development of research in the field of bioactive compounds of natural origin.

His scientific work has focused on the chemistry, biological activity, and transformations of natural compounds, including terpenoids, lactones, and phospholipids. Professor Wawrzeńczyk has authored numerous scientific publications and supervised many doctoral students who continue research in natural product chemistry and bioorganic chemistry.

The BioActive conference series has been closely connected with important milestones in his scientific career, celebrating both the 50th anniversary of his academic work and later his 80th birthday.

BioActive 2017

1st Conference – Bioactive Compounds of Natural Origin

Trzebnica, Poland

23–24 January 2017

The first conference dedicated to bioactive compounds of natural origin was organized by the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences together with the Wrocław University of Science and Technology.

The meeting was associated with the 50th anniversary of the scientific career of Professor Czesław Wawrzeńczyk, whose research has strongly influenced studies on natural bioactive molecules.

The conference brought together researchers working in the fields of chemistry, biotechnology, food science, and life sciences, creating an interdisciplinary forum for the discussion of natural product research.

The scientific program included lectures, oral presentations, and poster sessions devoted to topics such as:

  • natural bioactive compounds and their biological activity

  • terpenoids and plant secondary metabolites

  • bioinspired technologies

  • natural phospholipids and lipid-derived bioactive molecules

  • enzymatic and chemical modifications of natural compounds

  • analytical methods used in natural product research

The first BioActive conference established a scientific community focused on the exploration and application of natural biologically active compounds.
